I will be judging this event, come eat PIE for a good cause, other then it taste good!!

It’s that time again, folks! It’s our THIRD Annual Pie Contest. Come show off your pie making skills to help raise funds for a great organization, BK Farmyards, an organization seeking to turn the vast amount of unused acreage in NYC into farmable land. ( http://www.bkfarmyards.com )

Bring your pies at 5:30, just make sure that:

a. The crust is homemade.

b. It’s not a pizza pie

c. you bring a modestly sized place card with a description of the pie ONLY written on it

Entry is free for those with a pie and $5 for those there to indulge. WIth your entry fee you get a judging ballot so that you can pick your favorite pie.

There will be 3 local chefs (Cody Utzman -Papacitos/Brooklyn Standard and Food Network’s Chopped), Seamus Mullen- Boqueria and The Next Iron Chef and Diane DiMeo-Red Box Bistro and Chopped champion!) present to preside over the judges table. Prizes from local businesses will be awarded to the BEST SWEET, BEST SAVORY and PEOPLE’S CHOICE.

Please email BEEKEEPER@BROOKLYNHONEY.COM to sign up. You don’t have to sign up to enter but it helps us to get an idea of how many pies to expect.

Annual Cassoulet Cook Off

The Chef will be competing in a Cassoulet Cook Off. Everybody come out an enjoy my favorite winter dish of all time!! Hope to see ya all there and make sure you vote for your Chef.

On Saturday, January 16, from 1- 5:00 PM, the back room of Jimmy’s No. 43 will be filled with a variety of cassoulets created by inventive minds with impeccable palates. Some chefs, some amateurs, all food lovers.

In January of 2009, Jimmy’s No. 43 hosted its first Cassoulet Cook Off to benefit the Greenmarket in NYC. Cassoulet packed the house that Saturday afternoon, and we aim to do it again in January of 2010 as part of our Greenmarket Sausage Week. We will feature charcroute garni, bangers and mash, of course CASSOULET – all from Greenmarket farmers like Flying Pigs Farm, Violet Hill Farm, Tamarack Hollow, and 3 Corner Field Farm.
